3rd Grade Overview

November 16 - 22

Math: This week we will be continuing Unit 3. This unit works on 3 digit addition and subtraction as well as rounding to the nearest tenth, hundredth, and thousand. The test date on this unit is scheduled for Thursday, December 12th. **This may change depending on other things we have worked into our schedule during the month of December. 


Multiplication: Students will begin working on their 5’s. The test will take place on Friday, December 13th. 


F&F: We are completing our final unit before Thanksgiving Break. This unit is “Cause and Effect”. This is a unit that students have done before, but there are a few different steps and levels added in to build rigor and a deeper understanding. The Skills and Vocab quizzes are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 20th. The Performance Test will take place on Thursday, November 21st. 


Language: This week we will be studying for our summative assessment over nouns. The test will take place on Friday, November 22nd. 


Writing (Mrs. Adams): Students will continue learning about informative essays. Students will be reading different informative articles and analyzing how the author writes only factual information and how to structure their five paragraph essay. 


Spelling: We will begin working on Unit 14. The spelling test will be on Friday, November 22nd.


Social Studies (Mrs. Mercer): The next few class periods students will be learning about different Native American tribes leading up to Thanksgiving.  Post Thanksgiving Break students will be starting their new unit on Christmas Around the World. This will be a project unit for SS. No test will be given. 


Science (Ms. Richardson): We will continue our unit on Space. The test will be on Wednesday, December 11th. 


NOTES: 

  • It can be cold in our classrooms. Please make sure that your child has an appropriate sweater, sweatshirt (BBS logo on the front) to wear in the classroom. ***Please make sure to label your child’s jacket/sweater/sweatshirt. 

  • Due to rotations (Science, Social Studies, and Writing) going up to 3:00, we ask that they not leave earlier than that time. Of course, we understand if there are Dr. appointments.

  • Don’t forget to send in a snack and water bottle each day. Water bottles need to be screw on tops labeled with their name.

  • Please do not take things out of their binder pockets or “return” side without returning them. We will be using those items in class on a daily basis. This also includes interactive notebooks.
